We are currently sourcing for a Power & Utilities Technician. Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, the successful candidate will operate plant and equipment in all areas of the Power Station including the Engine Hall, Separators, Control Room and outstations, to ensure the provision of power to the Mine, Process Plant, residential areas and the township as required.
Key elements of the role include:
• Effectively operate engines and auxiliary equipment in accordance with safe operating procedures to ensure sufficient and consistent power is provided to all end users.
• Utilize SCADA, the computerized control system to monitor engine parameters and adjust variables to ensure consistent provision of power to end users.
• Operate, monitor and service all outstation plant and equipment including waste heat boilers, oil fired boilers, heavy fuel oil separators, fuel / day tanks, sludge incinerator, chlorination and demineralization plants, on site standby generators and the local town site auxiliary station.
• Ensure timely recording of all equipment checks, engine parameter measurements, control adjustments and servicing activities for engine hall, separator, control-room and outstation plant in the log sheets for each area, providing information to supervisors as required.

• Carry out all equipment isolations and issue safe work permits for maintenance personnel in accordance with the SWIPP system.
• Utilize procedures for the effective detection of faults in all areas, including plant test runs and timely response to alarms and fault warning systems.
• Conduct servicing and minor repairs of all plant and equipment including oil checks and changes, oil sump drainage, water checks, drainage and reagent chemical dosing, reporting major maintenance needs as required.
The successful candidate will have:
• A minimum level of Grade 10 education
• 3 – 5 years exposure to Power Station operations preferably within a mining environment; either through experience in a similar operation or through progression as an LGL Trainee Operator
• PNG Power, Power Station Operator Certificate or equivalent formal training
• Demonstrated knowledge in all aspects of operation, monitoring and knowledge of turbine engines, HFO separation units and related plant & equipment
• A sound awareness of operational safety issues
• Good computer literacy – exposure to computerized control systems in a powerhouse environment.
• Must have good written and oral communication skills in English
• An ability to follow established procedures and to have the self-discipline to complete work on time with minimal supervision
